The short version
AccordNote does not store your notes on our servers. Your data lives only on your local device and in a private, hidden folder inside your personal Google Drive. When you use AI features (Resurface headlines, ✨ Summarize, Extract Insights), the note content involved is sent to Google's paid-tier Gemini API for processing — Google's terms forbid training on paid-tier content. See the AI section below for what each feature sends. We do not sell your data. If AccordNote disappears tomorrow, your notes stay safe.
What data we access
- 1.Google account profile (name, email, profile picture) to display in the app. Stored locally in your browser only.
- 2.Google Drive App Data folder to sync your notes between the Chrome extension and the web app. This is a hidden folder that only AccordNote can access. Your regular Google Drive files are never touched.
- 3.Clipboard or selected text when you press the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+S), click "Paste & Save," or choose "Save selection to AccordNote" from the right-click menu. Read once per action, only on your explicit trigger, then saved to your memory — never to our servers.
- 4.AI chat page content (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot) via content scripts that inject a "Save to AccordNote" button. The script reads the AI response text only when you click Save. No data is collected automatically or sent to external servers.
Chrome extension permissions
Content scripts run only on these specific domains: chat.openai.com, chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, copilot.microsoft.com. We do not have host access to any other website. Page content is read only when you click the "Save" button — never automatically.
AI processing (be honest, here's exactly what happens)
AccordNote uses Google's paid-tier Gemini API for three AI features. When you use one of them, the relevant note content is sent to Gemini for processing. Per Google's paid-tier API terms, Google does not use the prompts or responses to train or improve their models. AccordNote does not store the prompt or the response on our servers — the result is written back to your own Drive and cached on your device.
A one-line headline is generated for notes that appear in your Resurface Deck. Fires once per note at save time, cached on the note record. The note's text is sent to Gemini; the headline comes back.
When you click the ✨ icon on a note, the full content is sent to Gemini to produce a title, 3–5 bullet summary, and category suggestion.
When you click "Extract Insights" in the mind map, the contents of all notes in that category/subcategory (limited to 1500 chars per note) are sent to Gemini in a single batch prompt to synthesize key insights.
AccordNote does not pass any user identifier alongside the content sent to Gemini — Google sees the text, not who wrote it. If you do not want any note text sent to Gemini, mark the note "🔒 AI off" or turn the feature off in Settings → AI Privacy. Every other part of AccordNote (capture, save, search, Drive sync) works without AI.
What we do NOT do
- We do not store your notes on our servers (not even AI prompts/responses — those are stateless).
- We do not sell, share, or monetize your personal data.
- We do not use tracking pixels, advertising cookies, or behavioral profilers.
- We do not train our own AI models on your data. Google's paid-tier API also does not train on the content we send.
- We do not read your notes outside of the AI features you explicitly trigger.
Aggregate page-view counts
We use Plausible Analytics to count how many people visit the marketing pages (/, /pricing, /blog, etc). Plausible is privacy-focused: no cookies, no personal identifiers, no cross-site tracking. The dashboard and your notes are NOT tracked. You can verify this in your browser dev tools.
Where your data lives
Deleting your data
Delete notes from the dashboard or the Chrome extension at any time. To remove all synced data from Google Drive, uninstall the extension and revoke AccordNote access from your Google account settings. Your data is yours to keep or delete.
